PERIDOT: Franco-Pakistani Research Collaboration Program

PERIDOT is an international research mobility initiative that brings together Pakistani and French academic researchers for collaborative scientific projects. Established through the Hubert Curien Partnership (PHC) framework, this program creates opportunities for scholars from both nations to work together and advance joint research initiatives.

Program Management:

The program operates through a coordinated institutional structure. In Pakistan, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) oversees and manages the initiative, while in France, two ministries share responsibility — the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Development (MAEDI) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESRI).

Core Purpose:

The primary goal of PERIDOT is to strengthen scientific and technological ties between Pakistani and French universities and research institutions. It achieves this by facilitating researcher mobility, enabling academics from both countries to travel, collaborate, and conduct joint research activities.

Program Progress:

Since its inception in 2014, PERIDOT has successfully completed ten phases and extended through 2024. In the most recent phase, three new research partnerships received approval, demonstrating continued interest and strong participation from both nations.

Focus Areas:

Researchers can apply for mobility support in three strategic domains:

Health Sciences — Medical and health-related research

Sustainable Energy, Agriculture & Food Security — Environmental and resource sustainability

Economics of Climate Change — Economic dimensions of climate adaptation

How to Apply:

The selection process is competitive and transparent, following international best practices. Importantly, applicants must first submit a joint proposal with a French collaborator through Campus France before applying for PERIDOT mobility funding. This requirement ensures genuine partnerships and coordinated research efforts.
